At Volvo Trucks Innovation Summit 2025, I spoke with Luz Infante, Executive Secretary of CONASET, about road safety and the role all of us—not only transport companies—have in saving lives. Although overall crashes had declined in Chile, fatal truck-related crashes remained stable. That called for action.
One number was particularly sobering: for every person killed inside a truck, three people die outside it—pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and others who may not have been seen. Volvo's Stop, Look & Wave program aims to teach children a simple, powerful habit: stop, look and make eye contact before crossing. Trucks have blind spots; even the best technology needs human awareness. Road safety is everyone's responsibility.
